indulge

I am waking up much more slowly than the buildings in this city. They are breathing, in, (2,3) out (2,3). I stood in the kitchen this morning, clutching a cup of coffee, and looked out the windows in my office. Who are those people across the way? I can see right into their work, (dare i say, their lives?) They make wild gestures with their hands, they watch youtube instead of powerpoints, they are just like you! A meeting room full of people doodling and writing poems and crossing their legs. I can see all of this from the windows in the kitchen. And i almost like it.
Last night I had beers and hot dogs with co-workers. Friends? Yes, these people you see more than you see your dog or your lover, they are your life. They might not know your middle name and they certinaly don't know what you look like when you wake up or how much you worry about every little thing, but they certainly know not to fuck around before that first (second? third?) cup of coffee hits, or where you keep the candy stash.
A dingy place called Rudy's housed us from the rain. A large, slimy drunk man spilled beer on Sally and I just had to put Iggy Pop on the juke box that was playing Vinny's favorite....Shania Twain. We brainstormed in the storm and then I left. My phone was not making or accepting calls but i got a text from Jamie. He was at the W Hotel in Union Square with our long lost favorite Bristish import, Ruban. I went over there, in the rain. The bustle did not phase me, the stench did not phase me, hell this is New York. I was let in the hotel and found the room. Cheap wine and Bill Maher. ahhh my boys....we all huddled on the bed, plastic hotel cups filled to the brim, and found E.T on the telly. Physically unable to change the channel and take our eyes off of a younger and wiser Drew Barrymore and that cuddle and "cute" extra terrestrial, we watched. I stayed til the bitter end, and contemplated not leaving at all, but....it all comes back to work. I schlubbed back home and fell asleep with my eyes in.
I awoke this morning to the sound of the rain that had not stopped. The news reminded me that, oddly enough, people are actually happy; in the streets, across the globe, coming home from the late shift at Burger King, people are really ok.
I promise I will bake something this weekend. and take pictures. I have not been inspired lately, I have been having a hard time writing, and even reading. Nothing holds my attention, i would much rather stare, Slowly close my eyes, sleep. Perhaps the shift in time, when I leave this building and its breathing slows and its lights turn off, it is dark already. And, well, that's not very inspiring at all.
